He has also been detailing what has been going on on the ground, as he is still living in Kyiv at the moment. Recently, Serge put out a solo album and did an interview about it with Rock History Music. Here's a great podcast interview with the band. ![]() Incomparably talented, are they not? =D>Īnd if I am honest, Ksenia Kuzina, their lone female voice, has the voice of an angel. The band was started in 2014 by Leonid Vorobyev and some of his talented "friends".Here is a documentary that details their story.Īnd while Serge is Ukrainian-born and most of the members come from Moscow, former guitarist Sergey Kashirin comes from Moldova, trumpeter Andrey Zyl comes from Belarus, current keyboardist Sergey Kurmaev comes from Kyrgyzstan and new lead guitarist Konstantin Kovachev comes from Kazakhstan, if that gives you an idea of the diversity of the group. They've even gotten into Steely Dan, too. I think they kill it, and with respect to Peter Cetera and the gang, demolish the original.Just my two-cent opinion for what it's worth. This is my favorite one so far, because it is my favorite Chicago song, sampled by The Bucketheads, and featuring Serge on lead vocals and Arturo Sandoval doing a killer trumpet solo. ![]() Here is a video they made for a fan who couldn't attend one of their concerts.Īnd then, the one that started it all for the band. ![]() OK, guys.Since the Ukraine, for obvious reasons, has been in the news for much of the past month, I thought I would start up a new thread. If you know me at all, I have truly embraced all types of music, food and culture over the years. From Argentinian rock to Japanese city pop to Scandinavian soul and Filipino jazz.Techno music, Afrobeat, Hawaiian slack key guitar, Spanish flamenco and klezmer music have also infiltrated my worldview. And so, now comes Ukraine.Vladimir Putin would like nothing more than for the world to admit that Ukraine does not have it's own individual culture, individual identity and that it is so closely linked with Russia that the two are indistinguishable and because of that, there is no need for it to be independent or as The Pet Shop Boys say.left to their own devices. But, I would like to say to him (and anyone else who thinks that Ukraine does not have it's own unique culture and music) that his insinuations could not be FURTHER from the truth.I have no Ukrainian background, to be sure, but I find it fascinating to learn about different cultures. And although I am more hot-blooded Italian with some German and Belgian thrown in, I have eaten a very good borscht before (beet soup) and am no stranger to a good shawarma sandwich, almond chicken, deep-fried pickles or corned beef-and-cabbage pierogi sliders (a recent Irish-Polish concoction I recently tried). If being honest, I've tried quite a few Polish combination plates in my time, and have become an expert in the acidity level of sauerkraut.Kielbasa, city chicken and good old fashioned stuffed cabbage rolls do not intimidate me! If it's unique and even if it's spicy, bring it on.I'll try just about anything.Within reason, of course. So, I thought.Since we are hearing so much about Ukraine and many people are supporting Ukraine, I thought. Why don't all of us learn more about this country we barely know? And there is so much culture and talent there to know, it deserves to be put on a pedestal! First off, I can name my favorite Ukrainian singer. Can you? His name is Serge Tiagniryadno. He is a Kyiv native and he is the lead singer of the (YouTube sensation) Chicago cover band. No, I should re-word that. The band that CHICAGO covers, LEONID & FRIENDS! And they've recently branched off and done some Earth, Wind & Fire and Blood, Sweat & Tears songs! Serge is Ukrainian, but most of the other members come from Russia and neighboring countries. They are the perfect example of how Ukrainians and Russians can all come together and make some absolutely wonderful music.Let me give you an example. Here are some videos to get you introduced to the band.
